It is an honour and a privilege to have been elected to this role and I thank the Assembly very much for your support. Before we proceed to the election of a Deputy Presiding Officer, I would like to place on record this Assembly’s thanks to the former Presiding Officer, Dame Rosemary Butler. She has been an excellent ambassador for the Assembly over the past five years. She has broken down barriers to participation in the democratic process, particularly amongst women through her Women in Public Life campaign and her work to encourage more young people to play their part at the centre of Assembly business.
