Transport for Wales has already started to plan future phases. These will be developed further with the operator and development partner, once appointed, to meet government priorities.
We are moving forward with our ambitious vision to reshape public transport infrastructure and services across Wales. This includes rail services through the next Wales and borders contract and the south Wales metro project, which will act as a blueprint for integrated transport across Wales.
Whilst we are responsible for the motorway and trunk road network in Wales, local authorities have responsibility for local roads. In this instance, Caerphilly County Borough Council is responsible for this scheme. Residents and businesses can report any issues through the council’s website or by telephoning their highways department.
The road safety framework for Wales sets out the actions we and our partners will take to achieve our casualty reduction targets. I recently announced funding of over £4.5 million for north Wales through our transport grants to improve safety, reduce congestion, create economic growth and promote active travel.
The Welsh Government’s tourism strategy, ‘Partnership for Growth’, sets out our priorities for developing and marketing all of Wales, including capital and revenue funding, and marketing activities at home and overseas. The International Convention Centre Wales opening in 2019 will be a catalyst to grow business tourism across east Wales.
Having taken full account of the technical, social, economic and environmental aspects of the scheme, and listened to the consultation responses, I am confident that this significant investment will address the existing problems and complement improvements across the Deeside area.
