The Welsh Government provides funding to all local authorities in Wales and to organisations such as Keep Wales Tidy to improve local environment quality. Our aim is to help empower communities in their local area and to encourage community engagement through education, collaborative working and enforcement programmes.

Our priority is to improve recycling rates for Wales to become the highest recycling nation in the world. We provide funding, advice and changes in legislation to meet this priority. We are making excellent progress and Wales is first in the UK, second in Europe and third in the world.

Precision agriculture will help the industry modernise, become more competitive and address its climate change and environmental responsibilities. Precision farming should not be considered in isolation but as part of a broader agriculture and land use strategy, post Brexit. Amaeth Cymru is currently developing this important road map for the future.

The Animal Welfare (Breeding of Dogs) (Wales) Regulations 2014 controls the licensing of dog breeding in Wales. The Pet Animals Act 1951 and Pet Animals (Amendment) Act 1983 cover the licensing of pet shops. Local authorities are responsible for the enforcement of these regulations.
